Women Power!
It’s International Women’s Day so I am starting it off by celebrating some of my favorite badass bosses who have created awesome brands that are changing the world! These women overcame tremendous obstacles to get where they are today. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor and Statistics, only 25% of businesses make it to their 15th year, with nearly 45% failing in their first five years in business. Those are some tough stats to surpass, but throw in being a woman, and the odds are even less in our favor.
These women not only founded their own companies, but they grew them into empires that are still thriving today! They deserve a standing ovation, so clap it out for these women and their amazing achievements:
Shan-Lyn Ma, Founder of Zola – For allowing couples everywhere to ask for what they really want from their wedding gifts
Jasmine Crowe, Founder of Goodr – For seeing that there was a problem with wasted food and solving it
Mariam Naficy, Founder of Minted – For bringing talented artists together with consumers that value quality
Allison Robinson, Founder of The Mom Project – For helping moms make the transition back into the workforce
Anu Bhardwaj, Founder of Women Investing in Women Digital – For championing female entrepreneurs
Sarah Blakley, Founder of Spanx – For revolutionizing shapewear for women and allowing us all to eat nachos and still fit into that dress
Jennifer Case, Founder of New Leaf Biofuel – For figuring out how to use oil from restaurants to power cars
Melanie Perkins, Founder of Canva – For letting us all feel like the graphic designers we know we can be
Samantha Barnes, Founder of Raddish – For showing kids that they can hone their culinary skills at any age
There are so many amazing women out there creating great brands, doing good in the world, and breaking those glass ceilings. Far too many to name in one blog post, which is a great problem to have! I applaud all of these women, and any women for that matter, who take the leap into entrepreneurship. I salute you ladies and am honored to be included in your boss babe tribe.
