Consistently Consistent.

New Year resolutions are so 2020. Resolutions imply that something is broken or wrong in your life. But growth doesn’t have to stem from an issue, it can just simply be! 2021 is all about coming up with your word or intention for the year. I find setting your intention to be a much more worthwhile use of your time, versus resolving to stop doing something. Intention is all about onward and upward!

When trying to think of what my intention for 2021 should be, I stumbled upon a few articles, and even a quiz or two. After taking several and getting nowhere, I decided to write down what I want to accomplish this year. My goals were lofty. Some would even say a bit overly ambitious. I thought about what it was going to take to accomplish those goals, and I landed on consistency.

I am a dreamer, an over-thinker, and a bit frenetic at times. I jump from idea to idea, project to project, often without even realizing it. As much as I hate structure, I need it to keep myself on track. To accomplish anything, people need consistency to make progress. To lose ten pounds, you need to eat healthy and work out every day, not just once in awhile. To write that book you’ve been thinking about, you need to sit in front of your computer every day, not just five minutes here or there. To make a million dollars, you need to make hundreds of dollars every week, until that becomes thousands, and then make those thousands every week until they become millions. It doesn’t matter how big or small the goal, consistency is key.

But how do we get consistent? It starts with having a solid plan that is aligned with your goals. No plan = no momentum. As much as I like flying by the seat of my pants, it typically doesn’t get you positive results. So this year I will save my spontaneity for decisions like what restaurant I am going to for dinner, and devote the time and energy into making plans that help me reach my aspirational goals!

The same goes for brands. If Geico suddenly switched their mascot to a bear, people would be in an uproar wondering where that cute little gecko went. Or if your favorite influencer suddenly stopped posting for weeks, you’d probably find someone new to follow. Brands that thrive are the ones that have a solid idea of who they are, and then they show up like that, EVERY SINGLE DAY!

So let’s make this the year of consistency. Let’s make a plan, find a way to hold ourselves accountable, and then stick to that plan like glue. Let’s show up as our most authentic selves, each and every day! Let’s be us, unapologetically and proudly. Because being consistently consistent is so 2021!
